Key questions to consider when buying a new business phone system

Do I really need a telephone system for my business?

This which may sound as a simple question in actual facts covers some key aspects of a phone system. Generally speaking you will need a telephone system (or Private Branch Exchange = PBX) if you want to:

  • make a receive calls using more than one phone line at the same time
  • transfer calls to other phones in the office
  • greet your customers with a pre-recorded message using an auto-responder (i.e. "press 1 for sales, 2 for accounts, etc.")
  • work from home and be able to connect to other extensions or telephones in your company

If you only need to connect 2 phones to one analogue line you most probably won't need a phone system.

What features do I need in my new telephone system?

Nowadays even the most basic telephone system will come with features like hold/transfer and a pre-recorded voicemail. However, as you add functionalities you will see that the overall price will go up accordingly.

Call recording, Interactive Voice Responder (IVR) and integration with 3rd party software are extremely useful features that always come with a high price tag attached. However, at the same price of a basic phone system, our telephone systems are offered in an all-inclusive package that removes the pain of choosing what you currently need and what you don't. In this way the telephone system will grow with your company and it will provide the required features as your business becomes more demanding.
